Full mouth reconstruction is a streamlined process that can help you to recover from even very most complex dental health problems. However, some of the procedures that you undergo during your treatment journey may come with a bit of a recovery period. What exactly can you expect while you are recovering from full mouth reconstruction, and what steps can you take to support your body’s healing process? This blog post provides some helpful information.

An Overview of the Recovery Process

Full mouth reconstruction is unique for each patient, but here a few tips to help you prepare for your recovery period:

  • Expect some soreness and swelling. Many restorative procedures, such as dental implant placement and crown preparation, can cause some soreness, discomfort, and swelling.
  • Be patient. People recover at different rates. Most people are feeling normal within a week or two of major procedures, including dental implant placement, tooth extractions, and more.
  • Attend follow-up appointments. Your dental team may advise you to attend one or more follow-up appointments. These visits are important and should not be neglected!
  • You might have multiple recovery periods. Whenever possible, your dental team will perform treatments simultaneously. However, you may still need to undergo multiple separate treatments, each with its own recovery process.

Tips for a Smooth Recovery

Here are some tips to promote a comfortable and smooth recovery process:

  • Take painkillers if necessary. Ibuprofen, acetaminophen, and other over-the-counter products can work well for pain relief.
  • Get enough rest. Too much physical activity can slow down your body’s ability to heal.
  • Do not smoke. Smoking and chewing tobacco can irritate your oral tissues and interfere with your ability to bounce back from invasive dental procedures.
  • Adjust your diet. Depending on which procedures are included in your full mouth reconstruction, you may need to stop eating certain foods for a while. For example, you might need to avoid hard, crunchy, and chewy items.
  • Maintain thorough oral hygiene. Brushing and flossing can reduce the risk of infection at your treatment sites. Just be sure to be very gentle during the first few days after any invasive procedure.
  • Ask for help if needed. If you run into any questions or concerns, you should call your dental team right away.

Recovering from full mouth reconstruction is easier than most people think! As long as you take some prudent precautions, you can expect to heal efficiently and smoothly.
